Chapter 1: Max, Alexa, and Luke R.

There was Max, just minding his own business, chillaxing out as he usually did in Mr. Byers’ class.  It was the beginning of the day, and Mr. Byers was not in the room.  I bet he’s down at the Media Center getting those horrible iPads, thought Max.  Max thought iPads were disgusting.

That was because they did Fast ForWord on iPads.  Max hates Fast ForWord.

Yes, Max was chillaxing… at Mr. Byers’ desk, on Mr. Byers’ swivel chair.  He wasn’t supposed to be there.  He twirled around and around.  “Weee!” he giggled.

“You’re not allowed to be there,” said Alexa, turning around to face him at her desk.

“You’re not allowed to be a square,” said Max.

“That makes absolutely no sense,” snapped Alexa.

“Cents?  Are you going to give me money?” cried Max.  “Give it to me!”  He grabbed Mr. Byers’ Promethean Board pen and pointed it at Alexa like he was going to write on her.

Alexa rolled her eyes and turned back around in her chair.  “Boys!” she muttered.

Well, Max started spinning in Mr. Byers chair again, faster and faster and faster.

“You’re going to get into trouble,” cautioned Luke R.

“I’m a TORNADO!” YELLED Max.  He was going so fast that he looked like a blur.

Mr. Byers' class was made up of twenty-five students—16 boys and 9 girls.  Since there were so many boys, the class had a reputation for being loud and active.  Mr. Byers thought to himself…what could I do to fix this loud and active class.  Give them money!!!  Not real money—funny money.  What do you think Mr. Byers is made of?  Money?

He also found a cool website called Class Dojo.  Every kid had a Dojo character.  Mr. Byers could give kids good green marks for making good choices and bad red marks for making poor choices.  Good marks made ding sounds.  Bad marks made whomp sounds.  Good marks made parents happy.  Bad marks made parents unhappy.  At this time, Class Dojo was up on the board, ready for Mr. Byers to pay the kids’ funny money for green marks.

Mr. Byers also had this huge white board at the front of the room…the Promethean Board.  It was just like a big touch screen.  Computer images were projected onto it, and Mr. Byers could use a magic pen to write on the board like a marker or to click on links like a mouse.  It was a mysterious and magical board, full of strange and wonderful powers.  It was also a powerful, evil board.  Muhahahaha!

Mr. Byers was aware of the horrible evilness of the Promethean Board, so he rarely allowed kids to use it.  He knew the board was planning to take over the world someday, but he also knew how to control it.  Now…back to Max.

Max was spinning so fast that the wind from his chair blew papers around the room.  Suddenly Max flew off the chair and into the air.  He looked like Superman without a cape, like a skydiver without a parachute.  “AHHHHHH!” he yelled as he spun out of control into the Promethean Board.  He stretched out his arms to break his fall.  The Promethean Board pen, still in his hand, smashed into the Board first, breaking it in half.  Instantly the Board opened up like a black hole, and Max was sucked into it.

Luke screamed!  “NOOOOOO!”

Alexa screamed!  “YESSSSSS!” She jumped up and danced the happy dance!
